How many CCTV cameras does a house need?

Most homes in Chitwan need between four and eight cameras. But the number is not the point. Where they go is the point.

Four cameras in the right places beat eight in the wrong ones, and we have been called out to replace both.

Start with the ways in

Every way into the house needs a camera, and everything else is a bonus. Walk around your house and count these.

Then look for the blind corner

Almost every house has one place nobody can see from anywhere else. The side passage. Behind the water tank. The gap between the house and the boundary wall.

That is where somebody stands when they do not want to be seen, and it is the camera people wish they had bought.

What a normal house comes to

Where people waste money

Do not put a camera in every room. Cameras inside bedrooms and living rooms are rarely watched and often regretted, and they cost the same as the ones outside that would have been useful.

Do not buy more detail than the distance needs either. A camera watching a doorway two metres away does not need the same lens as one watching a gate thirty metres away, and paying for the bigger one twice over adds up quickly.

One camera in the right place, with the light behind it rather than in front of it, is worth three fitted in a hurry.

We will count them with you

We walk the building, stand where you stand, and tell you what each camera would actually see. It costs nothing and takes about half an hour.
